What are excipients?
An excipient is a natural or synthetic, inert substance that is used in formulations to act as a lubricant, disintegrant, filler or diluent. They play an important role in the manufacturing process to aid in the handling of actives in terms of facilitating powder flowability, acting as a filler or improving disintegration of the final dosage form. Excipients are required to meet pharmaceutical standards and are regulated as such. PlusPharma is a member of IPEC-Americas, the International Pharmaceutical Excipients Council.
